Jennifer is an enclosed Carmelite nun. Within the monastery, the cloistered community live out an ideal of work and prayer following the Discalced Carmelite Rule.

The film invites the audience into the enclosure which is rarely seen from the inside. The film is a portrait  of Jennifer. Seven years in the making, the filming inside the convent was a collaboration between the director, Jennifer and Alejandro Roman, a volunteer who helps out the community and who was trained by the production.

This film takes us through a day in the life of the monastery.  In two interviews Jennifer talks about what brings her to this way of life.

The interior of the monastery itself becomes a presence; its camera films the empty rooms and spaces.  The sound and light connect the enclosed monastery with the  comings and goings of the world outside.

The film gives us a rare access into enclosed life and asks what are the difficulties of this life and what are its rewards?
